MBA in Jundiaí

Capacity-building and fundamental research in order to develop and thus bring into service a mechanical biological treatment facility (MBT) with an integrated fermentation stage for the community of Jundiaí, SP (Brazil)

The Brazilian National Solid Waste Policy provides for selective waste collection and treatment in the entire country by 2014. In this context, developing technology, technical consulting and state-of-the-art machinery is paramount to implement the policy.

The research project had the objective of developing an eco-efficient urban solid waste management system; providing the requirements for a substantial waste management system in Jundiaí; and planning and tendering a Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) with an integrated fermentation stage in the municipality.

The project also implemented the Brazilian Center for Research Education and Demonstration in Waste Management (CREED), which will provide training, information and consulting for decision-makers, public administration, the waste management industry, the energy industry and regulating agencies not only for Jundiai, but for other municipalities as well.
