Ferramentas para CSP - Integração ao Sistema Nacional Interligado da Tecnologia CSP - Comparação e Aplicação de Ferramentas de Planejamento
Although renewable energy sources - hydropower in particular - already contribute significantly to the electricity supply in Brazil, the country plans to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 20% until 2020 in comparison to the 2005 base line. In this context, the use of Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plants offers an adequate alternative.
The project analyzed three different energy planning tools to model CSP technology as part of the full set of power plants operating in the Brazilian energy system. This approach allowed exploring the opportunities of implementing different CSP configurations and different CSP dispatch strategies to achieve climate targets, while maintaining the stability of the energy system and saving financial and natural resources.
The project analyzed and compared the respective strengths and weaknesses (SWOT analysis) of these three energy planning tools to address the issue of CSP integration into the Brazilian energy system. Based on the model's capabilities analysis and preliminary simulations of CSP integration in the Brazilian electric system, the project delivered recommendations to Brazilian energy stakeholders to foster the development of CSP in the country.
